Orange Shirt Dayhttp://hid.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/149Orange Shirt Day
Orange Shirt Day is September 30.

Orange Shirt Day is something we can do as a school community to show our First Nations, Metis and Inuit students and community members that It Matters.

It Matters because the Residential School System is a major cause of poverty and homelessness among Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

It Matters because we may not be responsible for what happened in the past, but we can demonstrate our understanding of the harm that was caused to countless children.

It Matters because every child matters.

Please join us in the hopes of seeing a sea of orange in our school on Wednesday, September 30. Thank you.

Welcome Back to School 2020-2021http://hid.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/148Welcome Back to School 2020-2021
Can we begin our first message of the school year with great big "Thank you's"!

Thank you to our students who are adjusting in a rather amazing way to all of the new routines in place for Covid_19.

Thank you to our parents, guardians, care-givers who despite their worries, are understanding about mask-wearing, dropping off their students at the front of the school and not being allowed into the back yard or our school building, and being positive and supportive about these changes in the time of Covid_19.

Thank you to our staff who frankly, have gone above and beyond to implement all of then new protection strategies needed for teaching and learning safely in the time of Covid_19.

The common theme here is change and adjusting to change. And we are all doing it and giving each other grace and understanding as we do so. THANK YOU!

On Tuesday, September 8 we welcomed students with surnames A-G; on Wednesday September 9 we welcomed students with surnames H-O, and on Thursday, September 10 we will welcome students with surnames P-Z AND all of our JK students. JK parents please remember that the start of the school day for ALL of our JKs is 9:35 am. Please go to the Kindergarten yard on the west side of the school and wait with your child, in a socially distanced way, outside of the fenced-in yard. We will have extra staff available to assist your child to enter the classroom on this first, special day of school for them and for you! We can't wait to meet our newest members of the Hillsdale school community.

There are two items to share with you at this time:

1. We are communicating to parents / guardians via email this school year. If you have not received the back-to-school communication (2 emails), please call the office with an up-to-date email address or to correct any error we might have in your email address.

2. We will be implementing "Boomerang" lunches next week on Monday, September 14. A boomerang lunch is a fancy way of saying that anything that comes to school in your child's lunch bag returns home in your child's lunch bag.

FINALLY, there will be bumps along the way, our staff and our parents and our students have a lot to contend with. We know we are all doing our best.

Thanks to two!http://hid.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/147Thanks to two!
Our School Council Chair, Roz L, has been honoured with a SCDSB Character Award. Thank you Roz for all you do to support our school with your ideas and enthusiasm. You always have our students' and families' best interests in mind and at heart. Check out the video to see the names of all those being honoured across our system in three categories - Students, Staff, Volunteers - on twitter @SCDSB_Schools

Thank you also to the MacLachlan family who have tidied up our school garden for us while we are away from school. What a great way to care for our school and learn about the growing season at the same time. Much appreciated.
